Stainless steel claddings for elevators

TECHNOLOGY:
  • Bend/Fold to shape according to the required profile
  • Gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding, CNC laser welding

1. Elevator positions need to use the claddings

For most elevator models, the cabins and doors use the claddings to protect and decorate.
  • Elevator cabin: This is an internal space limited by 4 walls, 1 floor and 1 ventilation ceiling. Cabin is used to store people or goods when moving up/down by elevator. The cabin after installation will be a space with a very rough surface. Therefore, to increase aesthetics as well as protect other internal parts, the manufacturer or user will install an external shield. This is called a cabin cladding or elevator cladding. The material commonly used to make elevator cladding is stainless steel.
  • Elevator doors: As with cabins, elevator doors after installation will not be able to ensure aesthetics. Therefore, to harmonize with the building architecture as well as increase the life of the product, stainless steel claddings for elevator doors are also an indispensable part.

2. Why is stainless steel preferred for elevator claddings?

Stainless steel is a preferred material for elevator claddings. There are many different reasons why this material is at the top of the list. The first thing to mention is aesthetics. Thanks to the shiny and clean look, stainless steel will help the cabin surface and elevator doors become more luxurious. The second reason is that stainless steel is very durable, and easy to clean. After use, users can completely refresh and clean the stainless steel surface of the elevator cladding with just a damp towel. Finally, using stainless steel for cabin claddings and elevator doors can increase the usable area, increase the service life, and limit the need for maintenance

3. Types of stainless steel commonly used in elevator claddings

For cabin claddings and elevator doors, you can consider using different types of stainless steel. In particular, there are 3 types of stainless steel commonly used, specifically:
  • Hairline stainless steel: Hairline stainless steel has the advantages of reasonable price, and high durability. This type of stainless steel is suitable for many design styles, aiming for simplicity, and exuding elegance for the whole building.
  • Mirror stainless steel: Mirror stainless steel is used to make elevator cabin walls. Mirror stainless steel is stainless steel 304 with a shiny surface that can be mirrored. Mirror stainless steel is also often combined with other materials to complete the cabin, typically a combination of hairline stainless steel and mirror stainless steel which is the most common cabin design.
  • Etching stainless steel: This is a product of hairline stainless steel or mirror stainless steel that is corroded into decorative motifs. Using etching stainless steel for cabin claddings and elevator doors helps reduce the feeling of boredom when standing in the tight space of the cabin, and it can be an interesting check-in space for customers.
